For those not in the know, the Sims2Pack Clean
Installer (or Clean Installer for short) is a program that allows you to install
files for the Sims 2 game. While not that hard to use, the interface may be initially confusing. A good rule to follow before installing any program into your computer is to check the specs first.
Please Note:
The following recommendations are based on my personal
preferences and therefore may differ from the program creators.
The Optimum Specs for Running Clean Installer
are:
- Windows XP - Service Pack 2 or 3
- At least 4GB memory
- At least 250GB Hard Drive (This allows for Windows, All
Games and Custom Content)

Disclaimer:

replace or take the place of the original guides.

Now you are ready to begin understanding the
wonderful world of Clean Installer.
1. Begin by opening the program.
For ease of use and the fact it will become
your closest friend, make sure you have a desktop icon for it.
2. The features of Clean Installer look like
this.
- Preview Images & Browsing Local Folder
You can view the contents of a game file
(usually .package) when you have the preview images feature ticked. It's handy
if you don't know what is in a package file but it's also pesky and gets in the
way so unless you have really need it.
Browsing Local Folder tells you which folder
your looking in and also how many .package files are in there. It's nothing fancy
to be honest, its just a handy reference point.
- Choose Directory / Recursive
Choose Directory allows you to navigate to the
location of your downloaded content, when you select Browse a smaller window
will pop up and from there, select the desired folder. The recursive
feature remains ticked, to be honest I don't make use of it. It seems to do
very little whether it's ticked or not.
- Main Program Window
The main game window shows you the contents of
the package files within the folder chosen; there are
two different events that can happen in the window, sometimes these events will
occur in the one session where as other times you might not see a
thing.
- Red
Highlighted Events
When you have an item highlighted in red it
means that this is a game hack, which in layman's terms is when a user has made
a modification to certain parts of the game. Clean Installer recognizes this
change and is warning you by highlighting it in red.
- Pink
Highlighted Events
When you have two or more items highlighted in
pink; clean installer is informing you that there maybe two or more items by the
same maker or of the same type. Now this may not be the case, it maybe that the
items have been copied from each other, below is an easy way to check for
identical items.
1. Locate the MD5 column
2. Look at the combination of numbers and
letters

3. If they are identical then it's a duplicate;if they do not match then they are copied from each other.
- Update
Although to date there have been no new
versions of Clean Installer released, update allows the program to check and see
if there has been a new version released for download.

The new button is used by the looks of it for
creating a new package file or folder, it is mostly a developer tool and
therefore I would suggest looking here for more
information.
- Install / OK
This is the last button on the main window of
the program; usually if you are in the main window then you will only be present
with the OK option. However if you make use of the Install All feature then you
will usually be presented with both.
